Jiujiang Yangtze River Bridge is the Beijing-Kowloon Railway The choke point of the main artery, on average, more than 200 trains pass on the bridge every day, and more than 600 ships pass under the bridge. The bridge has more than 30,000 tons of steel beams and more than 1 million sets of bolts. Bridge workers have to inspect the bridge every month. The bridge undergoes a full coverage inspection to ensure safe and smooth transportation.

56-year-old Sun Fengsheng is a bridge worker at the Jiujiang Bridge Section of China Railway Nanchang Bureau Group Co., Ltd. For the past 28 years, Sun Fengsheng and his disciples have been working here since the construction of the Jiujiang Yangtze River Bridge. They have climbed the steel beams and climbed the bridge piers, fighting the severe cold and heat, inspecting every facility of the bridge, tapping and exploring, and eliminating them. Safety hazard

One day during the Spring Festival travel period in 2012, the bridge boom swayed violently due to strong winds. Sun Fengsheng reviewed it and It was found that the two dampers on the bridge were fatigued and fractured. In order to ensure the structural safety of the bridge, he and his workers lifted the work. The basket was tied to the frozen boom, and the damper was successfully replaced after working on the ground in the cold wind for 7 hours. When the work was completed, Sun Fengsheng’s limbs were paralyzed and his whole body was frozen.

Now, Sun Fengsheng also has another main task, which is to cultivate young workers. The 29-year-old disciple Zhang Wenliang took over the baton from his apprentice in 2020 and served as the foreman of the work area. “Be cautious and meticulous, and the apprentice is our model for further study. “Zhang Wenliang said.

On the road to work, Sun Fengsheng looked at old photos of the bridge in the bridgehead hall and said: ” I have been guarding the bridge for 28 years. I will feel relieved if I can leave this ‘old man’ to my disciples in good health before I retire. “After the Spring Festival this year, the number of trains passing through the bridge increased, and the frequency of inspections also increased accordingly. The “bridge guarding doctors” of the Jiujiang Yangtze River Bridge became even busier…
